In Our Own Backyard is the RPC's book about living in harmony with our little village's beautiful natural environment.  It has 134 pages packed with information specifically about our Riverwoods environment, including help on selecting trees, shrubs and other plants, and tips on planting.  

The book is richly illustrated, and includes a full-color laminated fold-out map of Riverwoods' plants.  We're proud that our book was researched, written, and edited by volunteer residents of Riverwoods. Many of the photos were taken by Riverwoods residents.  

The first edition was printed and distributed without charge to all Riverwoods residents in late 2008 with the assistance of the Village Board of Trustees.  The new, completely updated edition was completed in 2017, again by Riverwoods volunteers.  

The book is available for $20 from any RPC Directors (just email riverwoodspc@gmail.com). The book can also be purchased at our events such as the Native Plant Sale.

The book is intended as both an introduction to our woodland community, and as a convenient resource, complete with descriptions and illustrations of local plants and wildlife and lists of library and Internet resources.
